I thought I would blog about nutritional yeast as I was recently asked about it. It is high in protein, rich in B vitamins including B12, is a pure natural food – no additives or preservatives. Nutritional yeast comes in flake form and readily dissolves in liquid. It can be eaten straight from the container, sprinkled on food; it can be added to sauces, soups and stews; or just add it to a dish during preparation to add flavour. It has a sort of nutty cheesy favour and is often used as a vegan cheese replacement.
If you read American vegan recipe websites you will often find it used as an ingredient. I haven’t managed to locate it in any UK shops, however you can buy it easily online and get it delivered to your home.
*PS I’ve just found a shop that sells nutritional yeast, so keep looking! It may be best to try an independent health food store*
